Impresario Peter Shapiro confirmed he is working with Jerry Garcia’s estate to open a Chicago outpost of Garcia’s, a music venue that according to Eater will serve food and drink. “We’re moving along,” Shapiro told Eater. “We’re very excited about how the plans are coming together.”

Eater found a liquor license for Garcia’s back in February, which would open in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood as soon as early 2020 according to Shapiro. The location will be at 1001 W. Washington Boulevard. Garcia’s original outpost is adjacent to The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Peter Shapiro explained to Eater that “he wants to build a unique venue that will represent Garcia’s spirit, showcasing food, drink, and art that were important to the singer.”

“It’s a great place for this to happen,” Shapiro said of bringing Garcia’s to Chicago, a city which hosted the final Grateful Dead concerts in 1995 and three Fare Thee Well performances in 2015. “It’s just a large puzzle to put together with many, many pieces,” Shapiro explained. “I’m excited to complete the puzzle.” Head to Eater for more on the new venture.
