Jenny Lewis Performs Microshow For ‘The Current’: Pro-Shot Video

96

At the end of March, Jenny Lewis released her highly anticipated fourth solo album, On The Line. To promote the record, the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman stopped by St. Paul, Minnesota’s Clown Lounge at the Turf Club for a micro-show previewing select cuts from the new LP.

Prior to the album’s release, the The Voyager singer performed a special On The Line listening party with a number of high-profile musicians and actors. The Current‘s clip — which was recorded a week after On The Line‘s release and published by Minnesota Public Radio station The Current — stands in stark contrast to the prior event, with a tone that seems more genuine and intimate.

The video finds Lewis performing a number of originals as well as a Bob Dylan cover to a room of a few dozens. During the half-hour performance, she offers sincere performances of “Heads Gonna Roll,” “Wasted Youth,” “Party Clown,” “Red Bull & Hennessy” and “Rabbit Hole” as well as a take on “Standing In The Doorway,” off 1997’s Time Out Of Mind. Supported by a string trio as well as pianist and guitarist, Lewis offers a soulful and stripped-down performance, with the singer moving between a colorfully painted acoustic guitar and the upright piano.
