Since their inception, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead has been generous with their live-show recordings and now the Grateful Dead-inspired act has expanded their digital reach, as they just released complete live concerts to Spotify and Apple Music for the first time. The streaming availability comes just after the quintet celebrated the 100th installment of their Taper Thursday live audio series, which releases high-quality, full-show soundboard audio on a weekly basis to archive.org.
JRAD hinted that they start making use of the digital streaming services last week, when the five-piece jam act released a live rendition of “Scarlet Begonias” into “Fire On The Mountain” from their October 3, 2015 show at New York City’s Brooklyn Bowl. Now, the group has added 11 full live concerts to their band homepage on both streaming providers. The shows represent a sampling from across the group’s live history, drawing from headlining shows and festival sets as well as from this year back to 2013.
Three of the nearly dozen shows were recorded at Port Chester, New York’s historic Capitol Theatre, including two selections from annual New Year’s Eve runs (December 27, 2013 and December 30, 2016), as well as a show earlier this year on January 19, 2019. The two New Year’s Eve run selections also mark the oldest of the streaming shows, followed by the band’s August 2017 headlining debut at Red Rock Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.
The remaining concerts all were recorded recently between 2018 and 2019. The five selections from 2018 include two March shows (in Albany and at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl), two October shows (a festival set from Hulaween and a show at Washington DC’s The Anthem), and their November 11 showing at Oakland, California’s The Fox Theater. In addition to this year’s Capitol Theatre audio, Spotify and Apple Music now host the band’s spring performances at St. Louis’ The Pageant on February 16, 2019 and Portland, Maine’s The State Theater on March 2, 2019.
