John Prine Covers ‘My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight’

Legendary singer-songwriter John Prine shared a cover of “My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight” in advance of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. The Stephen Foster-penned ballad is played by the University Of Louisville Marching Band and sung by the crowd each year at the Kentucky Derby as the horses are led to the post parade.

Prine’s version of the song will be released in limited numbers on 7-inch Kentucky blue vinyl. The B-side of the record contains a live rendition of John’s “Paradise” featuring special guest Tyler Childers. Proceeds from sales of the vinyl, which is currently available for pre-order, will benefit the Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center, “a non-profit law firm supported by Prine and Childers that represents coal miners and their families in the Appalachian region.” Listen to John Prine’s cover of “My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight” below:
