Ahead of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, iconic singer-songwriter John Prine has shared a cover of Stephen Foster‘s “My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight”. The ballad is an annual staple at Louisville, KY’s beloved horse racing event, which is played by the University Of Louisville Marching Band as the horses are led into the Post Parade. The song is also regularly played at
University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Western Kentucky University football and basketball games.

Prine’s cover of “My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight” will be released as a limited-edition 7-inch Kentucky blue vinyl, with John’s “Paradise” featuring Tyler Childers on the B-side of the record. Proceeds from the release will benefit the Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center, a non-profit law firm representing coal miners and their families in the Appalachian region.
