Lettuce shared a new single from their upcoming album Elevate, a cover of the Tears For Fears’ 1985 classic “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Elevate arrives on June 14 via Lettuce Records.

Keyboardist Nigel Hall handles lead vocals on the jazzy interpretation of the Songs From The Big Chair cut. Hall spoke about the cover in a statement:

“This is a song I’ve always loved from the movie Real Genius from way back in the day…I’ve always felt a connection with this song, as I never like to sing covers that I can’t relate to. We hope that you enjoy our version as we’ve tried to make it dope, which I think we did.”

Bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes also talked about how the song’s message continues to be relevant today. “We feel it’s time to put aside our differences, let go of our egos and embrace our society with love, acceptance and a collective perseverance,” Coomes said. “We know together we can make it, we know that well, so this song is a reminder to live together in harmony.”

“Everybody Wants To Rule The World” follows the lead single from Elevate, “Krewe.” The Tears For Fears nod is one of two covers set to appear on the album.
