With Jazz Fest well underway, New Orleans is the place to be right now for late-night jams, unexpected collaborations, and non-stop musical marathons. On Thursday, New Orleans’ Civic Theatre hosted The Claypool Lennon Delirium for a performance following the opening day of Jazz Fest weekend two.

Les Claypool and Sean Lennon recently released their second album together, South of Reality, via ATOSouth of Reality is the follow-up to 2016’s Monolith of Phobos, the band’s debut record that displayed their fascinatingly raw authenticity, and 2017’s Lime And Limpid Green EP, which featured psychedelic covers of Pink FloydThe WhoKing Crimson, and Flower Travellin’ Band.

On Thursday, The Claypool Lennon Delirium worked through material off of Monolith of Phobos and South of Reality, which included a special sit-in from Phish bassist Mike Gordon. Gordon added some serious depth on the low end for the cover of The Beatles‘ “Tomorrow Never Knows, off of the group’s beloved 1966 Revolver album. Claypool and Gordon locked into some double bass action beside the son of late Beatle John Lennon. The Claypool Lennon Delirium also welcomed saxophone extraordinaire Skerik and percussionist Mike Dillon at last night’s Civic Theatre show.
