Alaska’s Portugal. The Man are the latest addition to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival lineup. P.TM will perform at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Sunday, July 28. The festival starts on Friday, July 26.
Organizers of the Newport Folk Festival have teamed with each performer on this year’s lineup to donate to a music education cause of their choice. The Newport Festivals Foundation made a donation on behalf of Portugal. The Man to benefit Dancing With The Spirit. The organization connects “youth and elders through school programs in Alaska.” Funds from the Newport Festivals Foundation will be used to transport two staff members, two members of P.TM and a small plane load of instruments to Tyonek, Alaska for a week-long session.
“The people and land of Alaska are very important to us and to have Newport Folk Festival help bring the people of Tyonek in the Dena’ina region the opportunity to experience Dancing With The Spirit is a great privilege,” reads a statement from Portugal. The Man. “Thanks so much to Newport Festivals Foundation and Portugal. The Man for their donation to Dancing with the Spirit to bring a music camp to Tebughna School in Tyonek, Alaska,” added Dancing With The Spirit director Belle Mickelson. “Music changes lives and adds incredible joy and happiness to students and their communities We are very grateful!”
Hozier, The Highwomen, Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band, Trey Anastasio, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy and Mountain Man are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the 2019 lineup. Tickets to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
