The Highwomen, a supergroup featuring Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby has been added to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival lineup. The HighWomen will perform at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Friday, July 26. The festival runs through Sunday, July 28.

For this year’s installment, the Newport Folk Festival paired with each act on the bill to donate to a music education cause of their choice. The Newport Festivals Foundation made a donation on behalf of The HighWomen to benefit She Is The Music. The organization aims to increase opportunity and visibility for women currently working in music. The funds donated will be used to host all-female writing camps and for a forthcoming mentorship program.

The HighWomen issued the following statement about She Is The Music:

“She Is The Music is a wonderful organization that supports and encourages women in all aspects of the music industry. It’s important to us that we have more safe spaces to create and learn. It’s important to us that we celebrate one another’s work and make more room for anyone that identifies as a woman.”

Read a note from She Is The Music co-founder Sam Kirby Yoh:

“We are so thankful to The HighWomen and Newport Festivals Foundation for their generous support of She Is The Music. This commitment enables us to fund and continue growing our programs, all of which are designed to drive equality, inclusivity and opportunity for women – both those who are working in music today, as well as future generations. This is an excellent example of women creators helping one another succeed and the impact we can achieve by working together to make a difference.”

As for now, the Newport appearance stands as the supergroup’s first live set. Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band, Trey Anastasio, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy and Mountain Man are a few of the other acts on the 2019 lineup. Tickets to the 2019 Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
