Episode 37 of The JamBase Podcast, part of the Osiris podcast network, features Tim Showalter of Strand of Oaks discussing his influences in a “Musical Mentors” interview segment and “The Rundown” of recent news stories. This episode is sponsored by Harmonized Records and the new Perpetual Groove album that comes out on May 17.

Strand Of Oaks mastermind Tim Showalter met with JamBase’s Andy Kahn in St. Paul, Minnesota ahead of Showalter’s recent performance at the Turf Club. Showalter tells AK about the first instrument he learned to play while still in grade school and his eventual evolution to the guitar. Tim talks about the influential band teachers that helped start his musical path and how his own time as a second-grade teacher impacted his career development. They also cover the origins of the name Strand Of Oaks, how Tim ultimately chose to pursue a life in music instead of teaching and his recent discovery and love for Phish. AK also talks to Tim about the latest Strand Of Oaks album, Eraserland, which was recorded with four of the five members of My Morning Jacket, including guitarist Carl Broemel who was a major force behind the album’s creation.

Perpetual Groove bassist Adam Perry introduces the track “Down In,” which appears on the group’s new, self-titled studio album. The seven-song LP was recorded in 2018 at studios in North Carolina and in Georgia and is PGroove’s first full-length release since Heal came out in 2009. Perpetual Groove is also the band’s first album recorded by the classic lineup of Perry, guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald and drummer Albert Suttle since the release of LIVELOVEDIE in 2007. Perpetual Groove will be available on May 17 wherever good music is sold.

The episode begins with JamBase’s David Onigman who starts “The Rundown” by recapping the news of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood‘s pending hiatus, following the departure of co-founding keyboardist Adam MacDougall. DaveO also discusses Trey Anastasio‘s new documentary film Between Me And My Mind coming to theaters this summer and the guitarist’s newly added solo acoustic shows at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Recent destination events confirmed by Umphrey’s McGee and Wilco are touched upon before DaveO gives a rundown of highlights from his recent trip to Nashville for the Music Biz 2019 Conference.
