On Saturday night, Dead & Company returned to Chicago, IL’s Wrigley Field for their second and final show of the weekend at the historic ballpark.

The Grateful Dead spin-off band—comprised of Bob WeirBill KreutzmannMickey HartJohn MayerOteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti—opened up their first set with a monstrous pairing of “Lady With A Fan” into “Terrapin Station”, which set an exploratory tone for the remainder of the show. Weir stepped up to the mic to lead his bandmates through “Sugar Magnolia” before Mayer stepped up to the plate and fired off a series of explosive guitar solos. “Sugar Magnolia” smoothly segued into a bouncy rendition of “Mr. Charlie”, which featured some spot-on lead vocal work from Mayer. Moving out of the song’s main theme, Chimenti and Mayer locked into some delicate interplay, backed by Kreutzmann, Hart, and Burbridge’s fierce rhythm section. The band continued on with “High Time”, “Friend Of The Devil”, and a rockin’ “Bertha” before pairing up “Mama Tried” into “Turn On Your Love Light” to close out their first set.

Following a brief setbreak, Dead & Company returned to open up their second set with “Spanish Jam”, which smoothly coasted into “Scarlet Begonias”. The band was firing off on all cylinders, with Mayer and Chimenti trading off a series of ever-evolving solos. “Scarlet Begonias” made way for “New Speedway Boogie”, allowing Chimenti another chance to dazzle the crowd with a roaring solo on his grand piano. Dead & Company moved forward with the traditional segue of “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Franklins Tower” before crashing into their customary “Drums/Space” segment of the evening. Next, Weir took the vocal lead on the second verse of “The Other One”, which was left open-ended at the band’s show the night prior. “The Other One” coasted into a tender take on “Standing On The Moon” before the band closed things out with a groovy “Sunshine Daydream”. Dead & Company returned to open up their encore with “Ripple”, with the joyful Windy City crowd singing along. The sextet properly closed out their encore with “One More Saturday Night”, allowing fans one more chance to dance and shake their bones.
