A schedule of memorial events in tribute to the late funk-rock pianist Malcolm Rebennack Jr., a.k.a. Dr. John, who died earlier this month back on June 6th at age 77, has been announced to take place in his home city of New Orleans, LA this coming weekend.

According to an announcement shared by New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (Jazz Fest) on Tuesday, a public visitation will take place at the city’s Orpheum Theater on Saturday morning from 7 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. A private memorial will then follow at the Orpheum from 1 p.m. – 3 PM, and will be broadcasted on WWOZ FM for fans and well-wishers who don’t receive an invitation. Following the private service, all are welcome to join in for a public second line parade beginning at the Orpheum Theater immediately afterward at 3 p.m.

Fans should get to the venue early, considering the size of the spontaneous second line that took place the day after Dr. John’s death which drew large crowds without any real organization. The festival didn’t reveal a specific parade route which Saturday’s second line will take, but it’s likely the music will make for its own guide as it often does.

In the weeks since his death, it has also been revealed that Dr. John had recorded one final album project before he passed away, which will soon receive a posthumous release.
