Bernie Taupin, the man half responsible for building Elton John‘s Hall-Of-Fame song catalog over the last 50 years, has announced a forthcoming multi-media art exhibit which will open in Los Angeles this weekend.
According to reports shared on Thursday, the new art project from Taupin will be called “Bernie Taupin: The Artist, The Raconteur & His Blowtorch,” and will debut at the Galerie Michael in Beverley Hills, CA on Friday, remaining there throughout the month before coming to an end on June 30th. The somewhat intense exhibit is set to feature 20 never-before-seen large-scale 3-D assemblage artworks on canvas, panels, wood and striking life-size sculptures made of barbed wire, padlocks, twine, fabric and plastic, shattered guitars, and various American flags.

Taupin reportedly burned parts of the featured flags while creating the project in hopes of showcasing the different elements of American patriotism. Some of the flags were given to Taupin by veterans and family members of veterans who had been killed in action.
“It’s got so much history attached to it,” he continued about how the use of the flag fits into his new exhibit. “For me, it’s a very heroic symbol. I always say it’s been battered and burned, but it has this ability to come back and unify people. Inspire people. Hopefully within the framework of my work, that’s what it’s doing.”
“The imagination is the most powerful tool artists possess, enabling us to conjure up beautiful distractions for the eyes and ears,” Taupin continued in saying about the art he’s created. “My dimensional work is simply the visual extension of what I have spent my life creating through words. Music and art are an inevitable collision.”
The month-long exhibit will also include archival material from Taupin’s personal collection, including sketches and private photos of the private songwriter and artist in his studio.
