Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour Shares Part 1 Of Guitar-Focused Podcast Series [Listen]

138

Former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour recently announced a new podcast series, which centers around the forthcoming auction of over 100 guitars from his personal collection on June 20th.

The David Gilmour Podcast hears Gilmour sharing stores behind three of his most famous guitars to be included in this month’s charitable auction, including his 1969 black Fender Stratocaster, his six and 12-string Martin acoustics, and his 1954 white Fender Stratocaster.

Recently, Gilmour shared the podcast’s first episode, where he discussed his beloved black Fender Stratocaster that he used to record Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. Gilmour explained that following the theft of Pink Floyd’s gear from New Orleans in 1970, he went on to purchase the black Strat at New York City’s Manny’s Music Store. Gilmour also detailed some of the other recordings on which his black Stratocaster has appeared and explained that, “it’s certainly earned its keep”.

“These guitars have been very good to me,” Gilmour told Rolling Stone to go with the auction’s initial announcement in January. “They’re my friends. They have given me lots of music. I just think it’s time that they went off and served someone else. I have had my time with them. And of course the money that they will raise will do an enormous amount of good in the world, and that is my intention.”
