Earlier this year, Metallica announced they will open San Francisco’s newest major music venue, Chase Center, with two shows recreating their 1999 S&M concerts alongside the San Francisco Symphony on September 6th & 8th. It’s now been announced that the performance in front of the new 18,000-capacity multi-purpose arena will be professionally filmed to screen in movie theatres for one night only

According to the announcement shared by the famous thrash metal band on Tuesday, footage from the two shows will broadcast in 3,000 theaters around the world on Wedsnesday, October 9th. The band will perform a mix of songs which originally appeared on the 1999 live album, in addition to symphonic versions of the band’s music which have since been released over the last two decades.

Participating movie theatres are still in the process of being confirmed, but tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, August 7th. Fans can head here to sign up for alerts for ticket on-sale details in the coming weeks leading to the film’s fall screening.

Metallica found themselves in news headlines recently in ways they probably would not have liked, as it’s been reported the band and Live Nation knowingly sold portions of their tickets directly to third-party resellers. The band has toured relentlessly since February 2016 in support of their 10th studio album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. The tour is scheduled to wrap on November 2nd after 170 performances over 14 total legs.

Head to the band’s website for ticket information for the remaining shows on their 2019 fall tour.
