Back in May, Mngoma, who drives for Uber in Durban, South Africa, was filmed by one of his passengers belting out several arias behind the wheel. The video was shared to the passenger’s Facebook, and has since received over 709,000 views. The 60-second video showcases Mngoma’s very impressive singing abilities, which The Guardian opera critic Tim Ashley even praised in saying, “perfectly decently and with no strain at the top [of the voice].”

In the two months since the video’s publication, Mngoma, who is a 27-year-old father, has been given media attention from national news outlets in addition to receiving an audition for the Cape Town Opera. Mngoma will also travel to Los Angeles this December to participate in an international talent contest known as iPop.

Amazingly, Mngoma’s singing skills are self-taught, and he works on his craft two hours per day, four days per week.

Mngoma just released his debut single this past Friday with a pop/opera hybrid titled, “Feel The Love”. Listen to the new song in full below.
