On Friday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their multi-band Wheels of Soul tour with Blackberry Smoke and Shovels and Rope with their first of two performances at Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

After the opening sets, Derek TrucksSusan Tedeschi, and their bandmates kicked off the one-set performance with “Sings, High Times”, off of their recent Signs release. The 12-piece ensemble moved forward with a cover of Elton John‘s “Border Song”, which was followed up by “Don’t Know What It Means”, highlighted by some hard-hitting vocal work by Tedeschi. Following “Don’t Know What It Means”, Tedeschi Trucks Band continued with takes on The Box Tops‘ “The Letter” and Bob Dylan‘s “Down In The Flood”, two covers that regularly appear in the band’s vast live catalog.

TTB pushed forward with their second Signs tune of the night, “High & Mighty”, which was followed up by a soulful rendition of Willie Nelson‘s “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces”. Backed by Susan’s beautiful vocal lead, Derek honored the Red Headed Stranger with a series of explosive solos on his signature Gibson SG guitar. Following “Still Your Mind”, “Part Of Me”, and “Shame”, the band dove into “Swamp Raga”, a favorite from the Derek Trucks Band‘s days on the road. Tedeschi Trucks Band continued to dazzle the Colorado crowd with setlist staples “Midnight In Harlem” and Bobby “Blue” Bland‘s “I Pity The Fool” before closing out their set with “I Want More”.

Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to open up their three-song encore with “Made Up Mind”, the band’s title track off of their 2014 studio album. Following Leon Russell‘s “Stranger In A Strange Land”, the band invited up Blackberry Smoke to help close out the night with an explosive cover of Joe Cocker‘s “Space Captain”
