The 10th Annual Werk Out Festival Unveils New Artistic Focal Point: Atlantis, An Underwater-Inspired World

188

The Werk Out Music & Arts Festival is set to return to its home at Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio on August 1st–3rd for its 10th annual edition.

As part of the festival’s 10-year celebration, this year boasts one big addition: Atlantis, the new artistic focal point of The Werk Out located in the bowl and heart of the festival site inspired by the mythical lost underwater city. The legend of Atlantis highlights a tale of a moral, spiritual community, playing into the location of Legend Valley and the rich musical history it has continued to host through the years, including performances by the Grateful Dead, Jon Bon Jovi, and more world-class acts. “Atlantis” has become a byword for any and all supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations and continues to inspire through the love of expression that the Werk Out Festival has continued to foster over the last decade.

Taking cues from islands, moats, and canals, The Werk Out has enlisted the collaboration and brainpower of more than 30 artists from across the U.S. to adorn Legend Valley with rare, exotic underwater design, aquatic-inspired installations, immersive art, exploratory spaces, and roaming characters, including mermaids and mythical sea creatures. Attendees can expect surprises at every turn.

Liquid Synapse Designs will present “Jellyfish Fields Forever,” an immersive art installation featuring artwork by Jamie Janish. Janish’s creations will include a Seashell Mandala workshop and aquatic flair highlighting Jellyfish Fields, as well as a giant clam shell. Performance collective Lunar Elements will add light to the already illuminated festival experience with character performances, flow arts, and surprises guaranteed to leave attendees smiling all weekend long. In Atlantis, the natural elements of Earth, water, air, fire, ether, and moonlight will be showcased, and Ohio’s own Ohio Mermaid collective will be onsite to add extra aquatic flair.

Returning this year is also the magical Jellydome, the beloved Werk Out staple created by IlluminEra Studios. IlluminEra is a collective of dreamers and doers who create art that inspires connections, playfulness, and a sense of wonder. The festival will also feature an underwater-themed playground for all ages and a magical flower tower, Purpureus. To complement the eclectic slate of musical performances, The Werk Out will feature over 14 live artists and painters creating real-time pieces of art.

Though not a new aspect of the festival, a number of “Werkshops” will take place in Atlantis throughout the weekend. Started in 2014 by IllumIKnation Station Grassroots Education, IKS travels around to music festivals and other events to promote education, exploration, community, and making a difference in the world.

Several of this year’s Werkshops will be hosted onsite by well-known influencers including Happy Tokes, who will present a CBD & Cannabis session interviewing artists and other influencers on topics including The Endocannabinoid System, Intro to Safe Consumption, CBD & Hemp, and breaking the stigma of cannabis. Acclaimed hooper and aerialist Amy Inspiral will also lead a hooping doubles workshop, offering hands-on instruction to those wishing to elevate their hooping performance skills.

The band has hand-picked headliners like Big Gigantic, STS9, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Steel Pulse, The Floozies, Twiddle, Matisyahu, and more to join them in 2019. The festival will also feature all-star collaborative tribute sets including ‘We Are The Champions: A Tribute To Queen’ and Pink Floyd’s The Wall featuring members of Turkuaz, Papadosio, The Werks, Dopapod, and The Motet. The String Cheese Incident’s Jason Hann, Michael Travis, Kyle Hollingsworth and Michael Kang will also perform for a Trancident set on Saturday, and a special Norman’s Big Dam Jam session will feature Johnny Neel (The Allman Brothers Band), Todd Stoops (RAQ), Dino Dimitrouleas, and members of The Werks.
