The Marcus King Band returned to Greenville, SC for a weekend performance in front of their hometown fans at the city’s Peace Center on Saturday night. The band’s sold-out Hometown Throwdown event saw the rock band led by guitarist Marcus King deliver two sets filled with a mix of covers and originals in their return to the southern city.

The first set of the night opened up with a fitting rendition of “Home At Last”, followed by “Where I’m Headed” and “Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong With That”. The show’s opening set continued a pair of originals from 2015’s Soul Insight with “Honey” and “Fraudulent Waffle”, followed by their first cover of the night with B.B. King‘s “Don’t Answer the Door”. The band then took the music into a three-song segue beginning with “Opie” and going right in “Autumn Rains” followed by a cover of Traffic‘s “Dear Mr. Fantasy”. The music continued with the band’s rendition of The Marshall Tucker Band‘s “Take the Highway” before heading into set break with “I Won’t Be Here” and “Side Door”.

The second half of the show saw the band return to the stage to continue the night’s fun with “Virginia” and “8 a.m.” followed by “How Long” and “Radio Soldier”. The band continued the second set originals with “Dyin’”, “Remember”, and “Always”, with the latter continuing right into a drum solo before starting into a two-song segue of “Plant Your Corn Early” into “Save Me”. The set came to a close with “Welcome Around Here” before King unofficially bid his hometown fans goodnight with “Goodbye Carolina”. The band returned to the stage for a two-song encore with “Homesick” and “The Well”.
