Cardi B is using her influential abilities as a pop celebrity to raise awareness for Bernie Sanders‘ 2020 Presidential campaign. The popular rap artist took to her Instagram on Tuesday to share a brief clip of her addressing the need to raise the country’s minimum wage for hourly workers while discussing her own financial challenges prior to launching her successful music career.
The recent in-person interview between the two took place at The TEN Nail Bar in Detroit, MI late last month.
“You know when I was, not famous, I just felt like I no matter how many jobs I get, I wasn’t able to make ends meet,” the rap star is heard saying to Sanders in the 94-second video clip from the interview series. “I wasn’t able to pay my rent, get transportation and eat.”
Sanders responds by reminding Cardi and viewers that recent legislation which he introduced (and passed) in the U.S. House of Representatives would look to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

Sanders is no stranger to using the platform of popular music in hopes of reaching the younger voters.
