Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch has shared more details on the forthcoming release of his debut studio album with his side project, the Adam Deitch Quartet.

Titled, Egyptian Secrets, the 13-track studio album still doesn’t have an official release date, but will include a mix of recordings which blend funk, soul, hip-hop, rock, and more–two of which will feature guest contributions from acclaimed jazz guitarist John Scofield.

The lineup for Adam Deitch Quartet on the album includes Deitch on drums, Wil Blades on organ, and Deitch’s Lettuce bandmates Eric “Benny” Bloom on trumpet and Ryan Zoidis on saxophone.

“The Adam Deitch Quartet isn’t exactly jazz, it has some elements, but I see it as the funkier side of things,” Deitch said about the forthcoming project in a statement to go with the album’s announcement on Tuesday. “It might be soul jazz, or funky jazz, that’s not for me to decide. I’ve dedicated the record to one of the greatest drummers to ever live, the legend Idris Muhammed, from New Orleans. On ‘Egyptian Secrets’, that’s where I’m coming from; I want to pay homage to that place that he created and lived in.”

The drummer continued in adding, “This is an organic record, with no effects, we didn’t do any editing or post-production, drums, organ and horns. It’s either the first or second take of every song, so there’s some real vibe, it’s really alive, and usually that’s where the best samples are coming from.”

The Adam Deitch Quartet regrouped for a rare live performance last fall with a show during New York City’s Brooklyn Comes Alive marathon.

The forthcoming arrival of the solo album follows the June release of Lettuce’s Elevate, the first studio effort from the funk-rock group in nearly four years

Lettuce will return to the road for a run of fall performances starting next month with a gig at Salvage Station in Asheville, NC on September 12th. Head to the band’s website for tickets and tour info, and stay on the looking for further announcements on the release of Egyptian Secrets in the coming weeks.
