‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Teaser Trailer Hints At Departure From Hawkins

For the roughly half-dozen people in the world who had any doubt that Netflix might renew one of its most popular shows, ever, doubt no more—Stranger Things is coming back for a fourth season.

The streaming giant made the announcement with an appropriately creepy video—see above.

We already know we might be looking at a very different show in some ways, given that the teaser tells us so with the legend, “We’re not in Hawkins anymore.”

And Season 3 ended essentially warning viewers such a change was afoot, since after Chief Hopper’s (David K. Harbour) apparent death Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) joined Joyce (Winona Ryder), Jonathan, and Will Byers in moving away from Hawkins, Indiana, where the first three seasons have been set.

Netflix also signed a deal with Stranger Things creators Ross and Matt Duffer that will take them beyond the 80s-set paranormal show.

“The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a press release, “and we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love. We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

The Duffers have a talent for creeping us out. We can only hope that whatever they do in addition to Stranger Things is half as nightmare-inducing as this series has been.

There’s no release date set for Season 4. We can only hope it’s not quite as long a wait as the previous seasons, which have aired more than a year apart. The kids will be able to buy booze if the pace is any slower.
