Yo La Tengo’s 8 Nights Of Hanukkah residency continued Thursday at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom. The band was joined throughout the performance by Boston Red Sox/Fenway Park organist Josh Kantor, while opening act, guitarist Sir Richard Bishop, also sat-in with the headliners.
Yo La Tengo opened their main set with “You Are Here.” Bishop and Kantor then emerged for takes on “The Ballad of Red Buckets” and “Damage.” Kantor remained onstage for “Upside Down” and “Did I Tell You.” Guitarist Sam Elwitt then came out for “You Baby” and his “Eight Candles,” the latter also featuring Kevin Micka on drums. Kantor and YLT then delivered “When It’s Dark,” “If It’s True,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Paddle Forward” and The Modern Lovers’ “Government Center.”
Guitarist Ira Kaplan, drummer Georgia Hubley and bassist James McNew closed out the set with “Ohm” (featuring Kaplan crowd surfing) and “Our Way To Fall.” The trio returned for the encore, which kicked off with Devo’s “Beautiful World.” Kantor, Elwitt and Todd Abramson were brought back for “That’s Cool, That’s Trash.” The night ended, sans guests, with an acoustic “Tom Courtenay.” Watch audience-shot video from Thursday’s concert posted by Richard Wolf below:
