The Disco Biscuits Debut ‘Running Into The Night’ In New York City

120

The Disco Biscuits kicked off their four-night New Year’s run at the PlayStation Theater in New York City on Friday night. The band debuted a new original, “Running Into The Night,” for the Big Apple audience.

Drummer Allen Aucoin, bassist Marc Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig and keyboardist Aron Magner got the first set underway with the driving electronica of “Strobelights And Martinis” (the same song the band opened their NYE run with in New York City in 2009 according to Phantasy Tour) and wasted no time in getting into some jamming highlighted by some tasty stuff from Gutwillig on his white Stratocaster before heading into “Electric Slinky.” The band debuted the song in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania during night two of their tour opener. “Feeling Twisted” came next which segued into an inverted “Abraxas” which in turn headed into the Magner-composed “Spaga” to close out the first frame.

The Biscuits began the second set with the biggest bust out of the evening, “The Tunnel,” which was last played on November 24, 2018. A jazzy “Astronaut” followed before the debut of “Running Into The Night,” which almost had a classic rock vibe to it. The band got into a so-called “Tractorbeam Jam” before heading back to “Astronaut” to wrap up the second set. The Disco Biscuits reemerged for the encore, serving up another sandwich beginning with “Digital Buddha” before heading into “Tempest” and returning to “Buddha” to close out the evening.
