Choreographer Jon Rua Discusses Phish New Year’s Eve On ‘Phemale-Centrics’ Podcast

Choreographer Jon Rua appears on the latest episode of the Phemale-Centrics podcast. Rua spoke to host Dawneebee about his role in working with Phish on the production of their New Year’s Eve gag.

Rua discusses meeting Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio while working on the Broadway play Hands On A Hardbody. Rua has also worked with Coheed and Cambria and previously appeared onstage with Phish dressed as a wombat on Halloween 2013.

Rua details planning Phish’s New Year’s Eve gag that rang in 2020 [Watch Here]. The choreographer/actor/dancer confirms Anastasio’s platform malfunction was not intentional or faked. The pair discusses rehearsals, recruiting the dancers/singers that played the “clones” and other aspects of preparing the 45+ minute production. Rua then explains how, along with musical director Carmel Dean, they improvised on the fly during the show once Trey’s platform became stuck in place several feet above the MSG stage.
