Gorillaz detailed their upcoming web series Song Machine. The virtual band masterminded by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett consisting of 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel will share the first episode tomorrow (January 30) featuring the song “Momentary Bliss” with Slowthai and Slaves (UK).
Song Machine sees Gorillaz subverting the conventional recording/single/album cycle for something new, sharing songs — with a revolving door of guest artists — as they fly out of Kong Studios. “Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do,” Gorillaz drummer Russel said in a statement.
“Gorillaz breaking the mold ‘cos the mold got old” Russel continued. “World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case…”
Song Machine episodes will also feature Machine Bitez, conversations between cartoon band members and their real life collaborators. Tune in below:
