Happy Birthday Questlove: The Roots With Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes & Bob Weir

135

JamBae would like to wish a very happy birthday to The Roots drummer Ahmir Khalib Thompson, aka Questlove, who turns 49 today. Questo is not only a ridiculously talented drummer, but he’s also a human music encyclopedia who is open to all sorts of music ranging far beyond the hip-hop world.

Over the years, fans have had a chance to see Thompson use both his knowledge and his skills to charm the world as a member of the house band on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and more recently on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Questlove made an appearance at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York as part of a HeadCount Benefit on September 7, 2012. For the encore of the show, The Roots were joined by a number of jam legends including Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes and Bob Weir as part of a six-song finale. The Roots backed the Phish frontman on “First Tube,” “Bathtub Gin” and “Pigtail,” before Weir, Haynes, Grace Potter and Bobby Keys emerged for “Dancing In The Streets,” “The Thrill Is Gone” and “Whipping Post.”

As a bonus, here’s Questo and The Roots backing Grace Potter and Trey Anastasio on “Pigtail” from that same evening thanks to SoundstreamNYC:
