The Relix Channel will live stream an all-star reinterpretation, dubbed Hooteroll? + Plus!, of Jerry Garcia and Howard Wales’ 1971 jazz-rock fusion album Hooteroll? tonight (January 12) from the Brooklyn Bowl in New York.
The concert is lead by drummer Joe Russo (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) with contributions from multi-instrumentalist Stuart Bogie (Antibalas), keyboardist Erik Deutsch (Leftover Salmon), guitarist Jonathan Goldberger (Superette), multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington (Darkside), trumpet player Jordan McClean (Antibalas) and keyboardist Kevin Kendrick.
Hooteroll? saw Jerry Gracia teaming up with keyboardist Howard Wales in 1971 to explore the burgeoning jazz-fusion revolution that was taking place at the time. Wales also played organ on a number of tracks on the Dead’s iconic 1970 album American Beauty. Hooteroll? + Plus! will see Russo and company exploring Hooteroll? as well as other works.
