The Lil Smokies will release their upcoming new studio album, Tornillo, this Friday, January 24. JamBase is pleased to premiere the record’s latest single, “Fortunes.”
The Lil Smokies recorded their third studio album with producer-engineer Bill Reynolds at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas. The band previously shared the singles “Carry Me” and “World’s On Fire.” Dobro player Andy Dunnigan described writing “Fortunes,” telling JamBase:
Unquestionably on the cryptic side, “Fortunes” is about a lot of things; one of which is returning home from the road. I’ll never forget the feeling of getting dropped off from one particularly long winter tour, trudging up my snowy porch steps, swinging the door open, setting my suitcase down and being enveloped wholly by silence. I wrote “Fortunes” a couple hours later; practically in the doorway. The silence was too stark of a contrast.
