Brandi Carlile & Courtney Marie Andrews Open The Fillmore Minneapolis

106

Brandi Carlile‘s concert Wednesday night was the first event ever held at The Fillmore Minneapolis. Carlile brought out the evening’s opener, Courtney Marie Andrews, to duet on the latter’s “May Your Kindness Remain.”

Wednesday’s show was Carlile’s first of three consecutive performances at the new 1,850 capacity venue. Opening night was a stripped-down set as Carlile was only accompanied by her longtime collaborators — “the twins” Phil Hanseroth and Tim Hanseroth. “Follow” from Carlile’s 2005 self-titled debut album was the first song played on The Fillmore Minneapolis stage.

The rest of the set was comprised from selections of songs from across Carlile’s catalog, including favorites such as “The Story,” “The Eye,” “Wherever Is Your Heart” and others. Andrews, who Carlile opened for in San Francisco last September, emerged mid-set for the aforementioned sit-in that found her alone onstage with Carlile. The setlist also contained Carlile’s often performed cover of Joni Mitchell’s “The River” and the Grammy Award-winning song she co-wrote for Tanya Tucker, “Bring Me My Flowers Now.”

The evening’s encore began with “Highwomen” from last year’s debut album by The Highwomen supergroup made up of Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby. Opening night closed with “Pride And Joy.”

Carlile will perform with her full band tonight at The Fillmore Minneapolis and on Friday as well. The final night will include a special Valentine’s Day performance of Carlile’s EP, XOBC. Both shows are sold-out. Click through below to watch video highlights from Wednesday’s concert:
