Bruce Springsteen Releases ‘Nassau Coliseum 05.04.09’ Live Album

141

Bruce Springsteen‘s latest live archival release features all of his performance with the E Street Band at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on May 4, 2009. Springsteen showcased the live album, available in multiple formats via Live.BruceSpringsteen.net, by sharing the band’s lone cover of the Soul Survivors’ “Expressway To Your Heart,” which was played that night.

The Boss’ 2009 visit to Nassau Coliseum came during the first leg of his band’s Working On A Dream tour. The run was notable for all the requests Springsteen & The E Street Band played in response to signs held up by fans. As such, the group debuted a number of covers including the one-and-done “Expressway To Your Heart” performed at the Long Island venue. “I knew someone was gonna ask for that one,” Bruce — who had soundchecked the tune with the band before the show — quipped at the end of the tune. “Expressway To Your Heart” was written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and released as a single by the Soul Survivors in 1967.

Springteen was backed by an E Street Band lineup of Roy Bittan, Clarence Clemons, Charlie Giordano, Nils Lofgren, Garry Tallent, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Curtis King, Cindy Mizelle and Soozie Tyrell on May 4, 2009. The ensemble kicked off the show with “Badlands” and played such staples as “Waitin’ On A Sunny Day,” “The Promised Land,” “Born To Run,” “Jungleland,” “Dancing In The Dark” and “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight).” Bruce and the band also fit in the tour debut of “Rendezvous” and a number of rarities including “Raise Your Hand,” “For You” and “The Wrestler.” On this night, “Expressway To Your Heart,” “For You,” “Rendezvous,” “Night” and “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” were performed in response to signs held by fans.
