Cris Jacobs Guests With Greensky Bluegrass On Bob Dylan Cover & More At The Anthem

173

Greensky Bluegrass teamed up with old pal Cris Jacobs on Friday night at The Anthem in Washington D.C. Jacobs, who was on hand to open with the Cris Jacobs Band, sat-in with GSBG on a Bob Dylan cover and original as part of Greensky’s second set last night.

The quintet opened with “Handguns” and then paired “Gold Rush” and “What You Need” ahead of their first “Nine Days” since September and a cover of “One Way Out.” Next, “Can’t Make Time” was followed by “The Radio Blues” and “Past My Prime” before “Room Without A Roof” and “Run Or Die” closed out the frame. Greensky’s second set began with “Jaywalking” and “It’s Not Mine Anymore.” From there, the band offered “Into The Rafters,” “Merely Avoiding” and “Demons.”

Dobroist Anders Beck introduced Jacobs after “Demons” and told the crowd how much love Greensky have for Cris and his band. Mandolinist Paul Hoffman explained it was time to get sentimental as both his and Jacobs’ young daughters hung out before the concert. The collaboration started with GSBG busting out “Forever Young” for the first time since January 17, 2019. Greensky has only performed the song Bob Dylan first released on Planet Waves four times in the past decade as per Phantasy Tour. Cris was also on hand for a 20-minute “All Four” before GSBG went at it alone in finishing the set with “A Letter To Seymour,” “In Control” and “Winter In The Copper Country.” For the encore, the five-piece covered “Chalk Dust Torture” by Phish.
