Dawes, Grahame Lesh & Phil Lesh Perform At Terrapin Crossroads Post-Super Bowl Party

150

Members of Dawes were joined by Grahame Lesh for a Sunday night set that featured a guest appearance from Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. The performance took place at the bar within Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California following the Super Bowl.

Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith and guitarist Trevor Menear served as the core band with Grahame on bass. The set began with the Grateful Dead classic “He’s Gone” and Bob Dylan’s “You Gotta Serve Somebody.” A particularly slow and groovy rendition of Allen Toussaint’s “I’ll Take A Melody” came next before the quartet performed the evening’s lone Dawes original — “If You Let Me Be Your Anchor.”

Phil Lesh emerged for four Grateful Dead gems in the middle of the set as Grahame moved over to guitar. “Jack Straw” was the first song Phil played on and was followed by “Bertha,” “Shakedown Street” and “Deal.” Grahame returned to bass when his father left the stage and the quartet ended the night with the Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie.”
