Dawes, Phil Lesh & Grahame Lesh Perform At Terrapin Crossroads

121

Dawes, sans one member, teamed with Grahame Lesh and Phil Lesh on Tuesday night for the second time in three nights at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California. There were a few changes last night from Sunday’s performance, as this time around Dawes keyboardist Lee Pardini was on hand and Bay Area guitarist Stu Allen sat-in for a few songs.

The free show in Terrapin’s bar featured a core band of Grahame Lesh on bass along with Dawes members Taylor Goldsmith (guitar), Pardini (keys), Griffin Goldsmith (drums) and Trevor Menear (guitarist). Dawes original “If I Wanted Someone” opened the set. Then, Menear handled lead vocals on a version of the Grateful Dead classic “Althea” that also featured Stu Allen. Stu stuck around for the band’s covers of John Lennon’s “Instant Karma!” and Bob Dylan’s “The Man In Me” and Dawes original “Million Dollar Bill.”

The final half of last night’s performance featured Phil Lesh on bass as Grahame moved over to guitar. Dawes and the Leshes treated fans to a near 20-minute “Help On The Way” into “Slipknot!” into “Franklin’s Tower.” Next, the group made their way through “The Wheel” before Phil led the band on one of his signature songs, “Unbroken Chain.” Bassist Wylie Gelber was the only member of Dawes who didn’t take part in Tuesday’s set.
