“Adventure cabin” is a pretty evocative name, so it’s clear Norwegian design studio Livit knows what they are doing with their line of elegantly minimalist “Birdbox” dwellings.
With Birdbox cabins, Livit has crafted something uniquely well-suited to experiencing nature in comfort and safety while still taking in all its beauty—something Scandinavians, with their gorgeous, austere forests and mountains in mind, do exceedingly well.
Here are more details about The Birdbox from Designboom:
…The overall project is comprised of a collection of birdbox types, including a mini and medi, which are defined by figural windows and a simply conceived plan and will be scattered across the diverse and scenic landscapes of Norway.
The designer … comments: “In Livit we wanted to create a product that could enable unique experiences, with minimal footprint. built-in composites to withstand any environment with no need for maintenance. birdbox can be lifted in place with a helicopter and mounted on columns for a minimal and reversible footprint in … nature.”
Livit’s plans, according to CEO Asbjørn Reksten Stigedal, are to locate Birdboxes “across the country where you get a new experience in every place you visit.”
On their website, Livit states that The Birdbox “is a prefabricated room designed to bring you close to nature,” a space that “should give you comfort and shelter” even though it is “small and light enough to be placed in unique places with minimal footprint.”
The mini version (PDF) can be shipped by truck and placed with a crane or helicopter. It’s got natural ventilation and comes “key-ready” with a bed and finished interior.
The medi Birdbox is just over 16 feet long and built with a small kitchen area, a side table, and two lounge chairs.
Buyers can also add on a Birdbox bathroom, which is small and looks like a wardrobe—it’s been designed to fully integrate with the cabin.
