James Taylor shared the single, “God Bless The Child.” The Billie Holiday classic appears on Taylor’s new covers album American Standard due out on February 28 via Fantasy Records.
American Standard features 14 songs culled from the American songbook and centered around guitar arrangements by Taylor and John Pizzarelli. Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. wrote “God Bless The Child” and released it in 1942. Holiday noted in her autobiography that she drew inspiration from her mother for the song who said after an argument, “God bless the child that’s got his own.” Listen to Taylor’s version featuring dobro from Jerry Douglas below:
