Acclaimed photographer Jay Blakesberg will bring his Between The Dark And Light: The Grateful Dead Photography Of Jay Blakesberg slideshow/storytelling presentation to four East Coast cities at the end of February. Blakesberg will share stories and images from his 40+ year career shooting the Dead and related bands to Norfolk, Asheville, Charleston and Miami Beach.
Jay’s story starts in suburban New Jersey in the late 1970s and how his interest in photography blossomed after his dad gave him an old Pentax camera. Blakesberg first shot the Dead at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey and began a relationship that continues through the present. “This engaging, fast moving presentation grants the audience an ‘all access’ pass to his many years photographing the band, first as a fan, and than as a journalist, and ultimately as an insider working for the band,” as per a press release.
Elation in Norfolk, Virginia will host Between The Dark & Light on Sunday, February 23. Jay then heads to The Grey Eagle in Asheville on Thursday, February 25 and will give the presentation before GD tribute act Reckoning performs at the Charleston Pour House in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday, February 26. Finally, the photographer will bring Between The Dark & Light to Miami Beach on Friday, February 28 before Bob Weir and Wolf Bros‘ show in town.
