Son Volt Plays ‘Trace’ Coming To Newport Folk Festival

196

Son Volt will perform their debut 1995 album, Trace, it its entirety at this year’s Newport Folk Festival. The Jay Farrar-fronted band are the latest addition to the 2020 lineup for the event, which will be held at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 31 – August 2.

The release of Trace came one year after Farrar broke up Uncle Tupelo and formed Son Volt. Consisting of 10 tracks written by Jay, Trace also features a cover of Ronnie Wood’s “Mystifies Me.” Newport Festivals Foundation made a donation to Music for Lifelong Achievement on behalf of Son Volt.

Son Volt will play Trace on Friday, July 31. Big Thief, EOB, Joseph, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Randy Newman and Sunny War are the other confirmed acts set to play on opening day of Newport Folk 2020. Black Pumas, Hawktail, Mandolin Orange and Vagabon are aboard for Saturday, August 1; while Caamp, Erin Rae, Nathaniel Rateliff, Tre Burt and Yola will play the final day of the sold-out event. Stay tuned for additional lineup announcements.
