Tedeschi Trucks Band Honors Kofi Burbridge In Washington D.C.

128

The Tedeschi Trucks Band started their second night at Washington D.C.’s Warner Theatre with a tribute to Kofi Burbridge, who died one year earlier, on Saturday night. Guitarist Derek Trucks and keyboardist Gabe Dixon teamed up for a gorgeous instrumental rendition of “Amazing Grace” to kick off the show.

“Amazing Grace” was followed by a run of originals “Let Me Get By,” “Just As Strange,” “Do I Look Worried” and “Hard Case.” Mike Mattson then led the group through “Life Is Crazy” before the TTB presented their rendition of Derek & The Dominos’ “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?” and Susan Tedeschi belted out “Somebody Pick Up My Pieces.” A pairing of “More & More” and “Idle Wind” ended the first set.

Last night’s Tedeschi Trucks Band second set began with an acoustic sequence of “Back Where I Started,” “Fourty-Four,” “I Am Yours” and “Woman Be Wise.” Next, a cover of Elmore James’ “Done Somebody Wrong” led into a mindful double dose with “Still Your Mind” and “Made Up Mind.” Then, Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I Pity The Fool” gave way to the improvisational highlight of the night — a 13+ minute “Midnight In Harlem.” It’s likely Kofi was still on band members minds when “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” followed. An adventurous “Bound For Glory” closed out the frame and “Let’s Go Get Stoned” was the evening’s encore.
