The Highwomen Welcome Sheryl Crow & Yola During Surprise Set At Girls Just Wanna Weekend

164

Supergroup The Highwomen played their second ever set on Friday with a surprise performance at Girls Just Wanna Weekend in Riviera Maya, Mexico. While Maren Morris was out of action as she’ll soon give birth, the band was joined by honorary Highwomen Sheryl Crow and Yola for portions of their set.

The Girls Just Wanna Weekend 2020 schedule had a “Blind Faith Event” scheduled for the main stage last night, which turned about to be The Highwomen’s first performance since they made their live debut at last year’s Newport Folk Festival. Friday’s Highwomen lineup featured Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby and Amanda Shires backed by guitarists Jason Isbell and Tim Hanseroth, keyboardist Peter Levin, bassist Phil Hanseroth and drummer Chris Powell. Yola and Sheryl Crow augmented The Highwomen on the opening pairing of “Highwomen” and “Redesigning Women” from the group’s self-titled 2019 debut album.

Carlile, Hemby, Shires and their band continued the set with The Highwomen tracks “If She Ever Leaves Me,” “My Only Child” and “Don’t Call Me.” Then, The Highwomen performed a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain.” Finally, Crow and Yola returned to help the supergroup end their second ever set with “Crowded Table.”
