The String Cheese Incident drummer Michael Travis shows off his setup for the latest installment of the band’s Rig Vids series. Travis also discusses his roots as a musician.

Michael Travis just played congas, bongos and a cowbell/wood block when SCI was formed. He learned to perform on a full kit as the band started to move beyond a bluegrass/calypso sound. The drummer displays the beats he came up with for “Pirates” and “San Jose” that utilizes hand drumming. Travis also noted that he tries to keep to more basic beats since percussionist Jason Hann joined Cheese. As he details the different parts of his kit, he said he generally doesn’t like endorsements as he doesn’t want anyone telling him what to play. Watch the Rig Vid below:
