Twiddle Welcomes Lowell Wurster & Josh Dobbs During Valentine’s Run

101

Twiddle delivered a two-night stand this past weekend dubbed Valentine’s Run 2020. The Vermont-based band welcomed percussionist Lowell Wurster on Friday, February 14 at the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York and keyboardist Josh Dobbs at The State Theatre in Portland, Maine on February 15.

For Valentine’s Day in Albany, Twiddle took the stage with “Love” spelled out behind them in lights. The quartet kicked off the show with “Five” from their 2015 album Plump before bookending “Every Soul” and “Beehop” with “Apples.” After “Life Back Now,” the band returned to “Every Soul” with Wurster on washboard. The first set closed out with a continuous section of “Hattie’s Jam” “When It Rains It Pours,” “Forevers” and back into “WIRIP” which included “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

The second set opened up with “Let’s Get It On,” marking the first time the band played the Marvin Gaye classic in nearly five years as per Phantasy Tour. Twiddle then worked ALO’s “Girl I Wanna Lay You Down” into “White Light.” After “Beethoven And Greene” led into “Doinkinbonk!!!” and “Just Gravy,” the quartet closed out the evening by returning to “Doinkinbonk!!!” as they had exceeded the venue’s curfew.

Twiddle then headed to Portland where they would treat The State Theatre audience to a show with no repeats from the night before beginning with a nonstop section of the classics “Nicodemus Portulay,” ”Gatsby The Great,” “Zazu’s Flight” and back into “Gatsby The Great.” “Dr. Remidi’s Melodium” then led into “Lost In The Cold,” on which the band would bring out Hobbs on keys to close out the first set.

The second set got underway with “Blunderbuss” and “River Drift” ahead of a continuous section of “Jamflowman,” “Frankenfoote,” “Slippin in the Kitchen” and the Mason William’s 1960s iconic instrumental “Classical Gas” to close out the second set. This time the band had time for an encore and brought the run to a close with “Syncopated Healing” and “Juggernaut.”
