Billy Strings Shares ‘Guitar Peace’ Video

Billy Strings shared video of “Guitar Peace” from his 2019 album, Home. The video comes from one of Billy’s Home recording sessions at Blackbird Studio in Nashville and featured in the May/June edition of Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

Strings drew inspiration for the raga-like “Guitar Peace” after watching the Martin Scorsese-directed documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World. “It had a lot of Ravi Shankar talking about this Indian music,’ Strings said, “which just comes from the soul and reaches down deep.”

When it was lunchtime at Blackbird and most everyone had left, Strings tuned his guitar to an open D tuning, a configuration more conducive to eastern sounds. “I told our engineer [Glenn Brown] just to leave the tape rolling,” Strings said. “Then I put the guitar in a weird tuning, smoked a bunch of weed, and got into the zone.” Brown joined him on some droning harmonium. “I don’t even know what I was thinking, Strings recalled. “I just wanted to play from my soul, make something up on the spot, and find weird things that worked. It was a total experiment.”

The result was “Guitar Peace.” Check out the video by Jesse Faatz and Kevin Thomma below:
