Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Perform In Norfolk In 2003: Previously Uncirculated Video

132

Previously uncirculated video of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds’ acoustic concert at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia has surfaced. The show took place just a few hours from where Dave and Tim met in Charlotteville, Virginia, which is also where Dave Matthews Band formed in 1991. 12 years later and just down the road from Charlottesville, Dave and Tim would debut a new song in Norfolk and also offer up some notable bust outs.

The show got underway with “Bartender” and “Where Are You Going,” but the newly surfaced video omits these due to an obstructed view. The video starts during “When The World Ends” after which Dave banters a bit. The classic “Two Step” followed ahead of relatively new song at the time, “Gravedigger,’ which would appear on Matthews’ 2003 solo album Some Devil. Next, Dave and Tim debuted the song “Stay Or Leave,” which would also end up on Matthews solo debut.

Then, Reynolds and Matthews offered up the 2003 debuts of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker” and the now rare “Help Myself” ahead of a bevy of favorites including “#41,” “Satellite” (the intro of which contained an interpolation of Buffalo Springfield’s protest anthem “For What It’s Worth”), “Crush” and “Don’t Drink The Water,” the latter of which featured a nod to the Woody Guthrie classic “This Land Is Your Land” in the outro.

Matthews then gave Reynolds the spotlight for bust outs of the Reynolds compositions “Open Up, Let It In” and “Jemez Rolling Waves,” both of which hadn’t seen a Dave and Tim stage since 1999. Both songs also appeared on Reynolds’ 2000 solo album, See Into Your Soul. Other highlights from the show include a rendition of “The Stone” that featured “I Started A Joke” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” outros as well as classics like “Jimi Thing,” “Seek Up,” “Lie In Our Graves” “Dancing Nancies” and an “Ants Marching” encore.
