Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason and many others were part of the all-star Music For The Marsden charity concert. The event was held Tuesday night at London’s O2 Arena.
The benefit for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity featured Clapton performing during Morrison’s set, collaborating on “Three Chords and the Truth,” “Does Love Conquer All?” and “Help Me.” Clapton’s set was made up of staples, “Key to the Highway,” “Stormy Monday” and “Crossroads.” According to fan site Where’s Eric, Clapton last played “Stormy Monday” while sitting-in with The Allman Brothers Band during their March 2009 residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
Mason emerged later in the show to play drums on a rendition of the Pink Floyd classic “Comfortably Numb.” Other participants included Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Tom Jones, Paul Carrack, Mike Rutherford, Bonnie Tyler, Rick Wakeman, Paul Jones, Zucchero, Paul Young, Dire Straits’ John Illsley and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall. Procol Harum’s Gary Brooker led the house band made up of bassist Dave Bronze, keyboardist Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens, guitarists Andy Fairweather Low and Robbie McIntosh and drummers Graham Broad and Ian Paice.
