Phish surprised fans by announcing the upcoming release of a new studio album entitled Sigma Oasis. The four members of the band revealed they will unveil the follow-up to 2016’s Big Boat via a listening party at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 1.

The announcement came during setbreak of the band’s Dinner And A Movie: An Archival Video Series replay on Tuesday night. Phish picked their July 27, 2014 show at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland as this week’s replay. When the first set was finished, footage of the four members of Phish chatting was displayed. Keyboardist Page McConnell was the first to reveal a new Phish album was on the way.

McConnell noted that Phish recorded the bulk of Sigma Oasis over the course of a week this past November at guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s barn in Vermont. The keyboardist added the band continued work on the LP ever since. Page explained Phish worked with engineer Vance Powell, who completed the project “just last week.”

All four members went on to briefly discuss Sigma Oasis including bassist Mike Gordon as Mike talked about how the experience of recording the album was similar to playing live. “To have this mountaintop barn where we can go and have the idea that playing together is best and get in there and do that in a little weird way, it makes it like a show vibe because the chemistry happens,” Gordon explained.

Page added that photographer Rene Huemer helped with the packaging of the album. Sigma Oasis takes its title from a song Anastasio debuted at a solo concert on December 15, 2018. Phish debuted their version nearly a year later on December 8, 2019. It appears the album will also feature “Everything’s Right,” as a taste of the song played at the end of the video chat. The Sigma Oasis listening party is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 1 at webcast.livephish.com, Facebook.com/phish, SiriusXM’s Phish Radio and via the JamBase Livestream Calendar.
