Guitarist Brendan Bayliss of Umphrey’s McGee delivered a solo acoustic livestream on Friday night dubbed “Winenot.” Bayliss offered up songs from the UM catalog along with a cascade of covers from Paul McCartney, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Ween, Radiohead, Tenacious D and more.
After welcoming everyone to the “apocalypse” and pouring himself a glass of wine, Bayliss got things going with Paul McCartney’s “Band On The Run,” a request from UM team member Matt Heller. Brendan would continue with Bob Marley’s “Mellow Mood” and the Police’s “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” ahead of Umphrey’s “You And You Alone,” a song UM has not played since August 2019 as per All Things Umphreys.
After covers of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire,” Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here,” Pearl Jam’s “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter” and The Beatles “Blackbird” and “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away,” among others, Bayliss continued with more Umph in “Upward,” “The Weight Around” and “Cut The Cable.” Ween’s “Freedom Of 76” and Radiohead’s “No Surprises” came next before Brendan closed out the set with a “social distancing” version of Tenacious D’s “Kielbasa” with behind the camera contributions from his wife Annie.
Bayliss would return for a solo piano encore of Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience” to close out Friday’s livestream. The next night, Bayliss and Annie would return to pay tribute to Kenny Rogers on the day he died with a duet of the classic “Islands In The Stream,” originally a duet between Rogers and Dolly Parton.
