Goose‘s Rick Mitarotonda and Peter Anspach led an acoustic set, aka “aGOOSEtic” set, from The Solarium in Connecticut that premiered as part of nugs.tv and 11E1even Group’s Live From Out There series on Sunday. The performance, which also featured contributions from vocalist Carina Immer and special guest Jeffrey Arevolo on upright bass and vocals, mixed Goose originals and choice covers such as the Grateful Dead’s “Ship Of Fools.”
Mitarotonda, Anspach and Arevolo kicked off the unplugged set, from which proceeds benefitted Sweet Relief’s COVID-19 fund like all Live From Out There performances, with original “Turned Clouds.” Then, Rick led the ensemble through “Ship Of Fools.” Next up for the trio was a rendition of “(Marie’s The Name) His Latest Flame,” a song penned by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman initially recorded by Del Shannon that Elvis Presley recorded and scored a hit with in 1961. Then, Peter led the three-piece through Goose’s own “Elizabeth.”
Sunday’s set continued with “Louise,” a tune penned by Paul Siebel that numerous artists recorded including Jack & Amanda Palmer, Tom T. Hall, Leo Kottke, Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt. The trio then presented Joan Baez’s “Silver Dagger” in an arrangement similar to the one used by Fleet Foxes and the Goose staples “Your Ocean” and “Madhuvan.” Anspach, Mitarotonda and Arevolo were joined by Immer for an a capella “Hokey Fish On A Sunday” night as an encore of sorts.
