Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy teamed with sons Spencer Tweedy and Sammy Tweedy for another installment of The Tweedy Show filmed by his wife, Susan Tweedy last night. Sammy, Spencer and Jeff performed a cover of The Rolling Stones‘ “Wild Horses” within the hour-long program on Monday.
Jeff’s first song of the episode was an original he dubbed “Half Life” that he believes was an outtake from the sessions that yielded the latest Wilco album, Ode To Joy. The Wilco frontman then tested superfan Paul by performing snippets of songs and having him guess what they were before settling in on “Walken.” Next, Spencer headed over to the drums to accompany his dad on “Low Key” from their Sukierae album. Spencer then used his hands to provide percussion for Jeff’s version of Ode To Joy lead single “Love Is Everywhere (Beware).”
It was then Sammy’s turn in the spotlight as he handled lead vocals on “Wild Horses” while backed by his dad on guitar and brother on percussion and harmony vocals. The family went on to celebrate 4/20 with a bit of “I Must Be High” before Sammy sang “Wishful Thinking.” Jeff then told a story of Wilco’s participation in the 1996 H.O.R.D.E. Festival and how Blues Traveler’s John Popper dissed him at the end of the tour before performing “Just Say Goodbye” off 2016’s Schmilco. The episode ended with a cover of “Reincarnation” by Roger Miller.
