Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss continued his Wine Not? livestream series on Friday. The guitarist would open up the session by honoring John Prine and also delivered another Prine tune halfway through his set.
Bayliss chose Prine’s “That’s The Way The World Goes Round” from the singer-songwriter’s 1978 album Bruised Orange to start things off. Brendan continued with “Return Item” from he and the late great Jeff Austin’s project, 30db. Bayliss then got into some Umphrey’s material with the staple “2×2” which segued into the Human League ‘80s classic “Don’t You Want Me.” Bayliss returned to UM with “Wife Soup” ahead of the stellar Cat Stevens song “Trouble.”
Brendan’s wife Annie Balyliss joined him for a duet of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” next before the guitarist headed over to the piano for a cover of the hilariously awesome Beck song, “Debra,” from the 1999 album Midnite Vultures. UM has covered the tune seven times since debuting it in 2000 with the last performance coming in 2018 as per All Things Umphreys. Next up, another UM staple in “Nemo,” which led into Paul Simon’s “Slip Slidin’ Away” followed by the Toto favorite “Africa.” Bayliss closed out the set with the recently released Umphrey’s McGee single, “Easter In Quarantine.”
